[ Well, thanks to an Inside Scoop from Alexander, the guild now has Waver's birthday down on their calendar, and they are ready. While neither Yoosung or Mishima knows Waver that well, what's important is that he's a victim who got a crappy deal and deserves a damn cake on his birthday.

All victims (plus Viral and Mike, since it's not like they intended to kill anyone, and Mishima would be a really big hypocrite if he didn't cut them some slack) have a nice little note stuck to their doors in the morning informing them that there will be cake in the library at 2 pm in honor of Waver Velvet's birthday!

As for the rest of you... they're not going to turn you away if you show up (with a few notable exceptions who probably know who they are) but actual culprits and creeps don't get invitations, sorry.

As promised, if you stop by the library at 2:00, you'll find it decorated with some green and gold paper streamers, with a red velvet cake proudly displayed on the checkout counter. (Yoosung did the baking, but Mishima frosted it! Teamwork!)

Which, yes, they absolutely 100% chose to make because they could call it a Red Waver Velvet Cake. ]

[ waver doesn't remember his own birthday.

not that he ever thought much about it before. it's just proof that he's lived another year without doing anything incredible or groundbreaking. just a mere measurement of time. and what does that matter when you're dead?

[ Oh good, this would have been pathetic if the person they were throwing this party for didn't even show up. ]

[ Mishima beams and gestures toward the cake. There is indeed a small card next to it that says HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WAVER, so he's not messing with you!! ]

I mean-- it's probably not technically the 365th day since your last one because of all the weird time stuff, but it's the right day according to the calendar, so. We just go with that.

waver looks at the cake. he looks at the card, and then at mishima, who looks so happy about all of this. ]

I didn't even remember that it was my birthday. Why would you guys do this sort of thing for me?

[ at least waver's not angry about it. even if his arms are crossed, he looks more...confused and embarrassed about it than anything else. ]

[ Rebecca hasn't set foot in the library since she died.

That's notable, considering it was where she spent about all her time, in the living version of Fayflower University.

But this is the first time since. She looks...uncomfortable? Definitely a little uncomfortable, but she's covering it with a smile, as she approaches him with...oh, did she make him something? Yes, some of Rebecca's signature stovies. ]

[ for the same reason that connor compliments him. why rebecca hugged him, and why 2d tried to cheer him up, along with hank and maya.

because they care about him.

just the thought alone brings tears to his eyes, and he has to duck his head to wipe his eyes with the back of his arm. ]

[ But there's nothing harsh in her tone. She pats him on the shoulder and sets the food down. ]

Now, we may be stuck in this place, but there's nothing to say we can't enjoy the time we have with the people here with us.

[ waver sniffles, looking up from his shoulder. hesitantly, he nods. ]

I guess that's true. I just...never thought anyone would do this for me. Even when I was alive.

And even if some of us don't know you that well yet, we can all agree that what happened to you was unfair and seriously sucked. So you deserve something good for a change!

[ waver looks visibly surprised over the fact that mishima would say that. it's obvious that he hasn't done this in a long time...and that he does yearn for it. for kindness. ]

But... well, it's not like he can't kind of understand the disbelief, really. He definitely knows how easy it is to get used to not being acknowledged, if that's why he's so surprised by this.

He tones down his enthusiasm a little. ]

...You know, the day you first showed up here was actually my birthday, haha. [ Hence the piece of cake he was holding at the time, which hopefully now makes more sense in retrospect. ] That was the first time anyone had really thrown a party like that for me, and it was nice, so.

[ Even if he'd been blatantly advertising it to everyone beforehand in hopes of getting one. ]
