Topic 1: Data Transfer

[ the truth is, connor is actually kind of nervous as he's waiting in the common room for everyone. he's playing with his coin - idly doing tricks with it to calibrate his systems and calm his nerves. he perks up if anyone shows up, though. he really just wants to help!! and, also, you know, thursday activity ]

Thank you for coming. I thought today we could start with something simple. As an AI, there's no reason that you can't share data with one another. While I don't think we have any ability to keep secrets here, it'll at least speed up the process of sharing what we do find.

The easiest way to do this is by connecting to another AI physically.

[ he turns to hank, who is here too, and takes his hand. connors skin peels back to show his robot white plastic. ]

The touch can be anywhere, but holding hands is probably easiest. Since you aren't simulations of androids, your hands will remain organic looking, like Hank's.

[ see? hank is fine. ]

Focus on something simple for the first time, like an object. Then think about your shared connection with the other person -- the place your data ends and theirs begins, and then imagine sending the idea of that object through to them.

[ it's clear he's practiced figuring out how to explain this to humans; imagination isn't really something that's ever been prioritized for androids, obviously. ]

You should be able to both send and receive with the connection. Try it with a partner and let me know if you have any questions. And when you're ready, I have something to share with you.

The revelations of their current state were always rather confusing, but the more time passes here the more it makes some sort of sense to her. So she's here, doing her best to make note of everything Connor says.

Then again, Maya's being rather quiet this Thursday. And she isn't raising her hand.

[ connor's surprised. he doesn't know maya super well, but he knows her well enough to know this isn't her normal way of doing things. eventually he finds his way over to her. ]

[Hmm... she does look kind of uncertain. Maybe she's just nervous about partnering up though, so Yoosung will gently offer at least.]

[ Hmmm yeah Hank can imagine why Maya would be a little less than thrilled about them being AI rather than ghosts. Hank's careful as he approaches her. ]

Just while you're touching, that's correct. Since that contact is required, I've never really thought of it like telepathy, but...

[Well, Viral is here, that's a good start. And he's definitely paying attention, a deliberate, interested look in his posture. It isn't quite predator-of-you the way he was in that first handful of days at the school, but it is predator-at-rest watching.

But he doesn't immediately offer up once they're starting to break up into pairs and so he's just kind of standing awkwardly at the edge of the room, watching.]

[2-D is also here (despite his concert bc i say so) and he's brought his notebook, trying to write down what Connor says in a more concise and easy to understand way but... you know. That only works if you actually understand what's being said in the first place. The idea of being AI is confusing enough on it's own but now they can.. d..data... transfer??? Whatever that means.

Maybe it's harder to understand because he's frustrated today thanks to Everything that's been happening lately, but either way he lets out an irritated sounding sigh.]

I'm not sure why I keep comin' to these meetings when I don't get what any of this means...
